Do I want Vertical or Horizontal?
We offer the Lori Bed in both Vertical and Horizontal orientations, depending on your preferences and space constraints.
Vertical beds are the traditional orientation, and guests can get in and out from either side.
Horizontal beds are a good choice if your ceiling height is lower, or if you don’t want the bed to stick out as far into the room when it’s open.
Can I assemble the Lori Bed myself?
Yes, you don’t need a professional to assemble or install a Lori Bed. Each step is simple and is clearly shown in our assembly instructions and step-by-step videos. The process takes a few hours, and it helps to have a second set of hands here and there, but you don’t need any special skills or tools.

What kind of mattress do I need?
The Lori Bed works with any mattress up to 10 inches thick. We calibrated the lifting mechanism of the Lori Bed to match the weight of The Lori Mattress, which weighs about 50lbs for a Twin and 80lbs for a Queen. Your bed will work best if you choose the Lori Mattress, or one of similar weight.
How does the Lori Bed attach to the wall?
The Lori Bed must be anchored to the wall for safety, but we designed the process to be as simple as possible. Just anchor the rear mounting plate into three studs with two screws each. We supply screws for wood and metal studs. There is no need to screw into the floor or remove your baseboards, like many of our competitors.
If you have masonry or concrete walls, you’ll need to supply the proper anchors for your application. The Lori Bed cannot be mounted to drywall only.

The packing job for these pieces is wonderful! When I unpacked the pieces I found that some of the packing material is more sturdy than parts of my old w**-mart desk!! This is a very sturdy solid plywood with laminate (similar to Formica) over the top. A sound piece of furniture. I am a little 5’ tall grandma, and found it simple to follow the assembly directions. I definitely needed a second person to help lift the boxes and attach the door to the surround. But I am glad to find that I can open and close the bed easily by myself.

Hard to find any flat-package furniture that is not made of manufactured materials. The result is furniture that looks like it belongs in the home permanently. Assembly is as simple as it can be, which is not to say that it's easy. All the parts are labeled for each step, and the parts fit together very well. There's even a bag of "extra parts" in case you lose something.
You really need two people and plenty of time to do the installation, but when you are finished (and if you don't skip reading any part of the well-documented instructions) you will have an elegant well-working Lori bed (not just a murphy-bed). No Ikea flat-package I've ever assembled takes more time and careful attention. What you get: The design is robust, clever and seems to be durable. This unit enables us to convert a small room in a small apartment to a guest room easily. Thanks to the desk option, someone can also take a meeting in that room when the unit is closed. It was a perfect solution for us.
We also bought the mattress. Raised in the 70's, I never saw a mattress delivered in a roll vacuum packed. We are very impressed that it's just like a true springform mattress, not some foam thing. It really is precisely weighted to match the gas cylinder, as advertised. If you buy your own mattress instead, weight matters: slightly lighter is better than slightly heavier than the "perfect" matching weight.
